Sakti a teremtés női princípiuma, az erő, az energia szimbóluma. Indiában istennőként tisztelik különféle formákban. Párja Siva, a világ férfi aspektusa, tőle kapja éltető erejét, teremtő energiáját.
Alakja összetett: ő a mindenség tápláló és oltalmazó anyja, de ő a sötét Földanya is, aki vérre szomjazik, és csak a holtak vérével öntözve válik igazán termékennyé. Ő a kedves, segítő feleség, a betegek gyógyítója, de ő a betegséggel sújtó rettegett istennő is. Tud lágy és kedves lenni, csábítani és számítóan manipulálni, tud pusztítani, harcolni és győzni – de legfőképp túlélni. Egy valamit nem tud: veszíteni.
A darab egy női életúton, a gyerekkortól az öregasszonyig, az örömökön, küzdelmeken, harcokon és bánatokon, a különféle életkorszakokon és élethelyzeteken viszi végig a nézőt. A figurák, bár látszatra különböznek, mind-mind ugyanannak az univerzális NŐ-nek egy-egy arcai.  A nő és a női sors nem változik, csak a világ, amiben létezniük kell. A világot viszont az ő gyermekeik formálják.
A Sakti egy kultúrákon, évezredeken és stílusokon átívelő táncmozaik a nő fogalmának átértékeléséről és újraértelmezéséről, az erőről, mely minden nőben saktiként él.
